Troubleshooting

Start here before you call — though calling is fine too

Instrumentation noise — fluctuating sensor values
Almost always an earthing or screening issue rather than a failed sensor. Check the thermocouple screen is earthed at one end only, that the loom is not routed alongside a drive cable, and that the vessel itself has a sound earth bond. Swapping the sensor first is the common mistake.
The autoclave will not start
Work the permissive chain in order: door fully closed and locked, interlock proved, cooling water available, air or nitrogen pressure present, no standing alarm, recipe selected and approved. CPC lists the blocking permissive on the start screen.
A thermocouple reads 2000°C
An open circuit, in nearly every case: a broken conductor, a loose terminal, or a disconnected plug in the charge. The reading is the instrument reporting an open input, not a real temperature. Check the joint at the vessel wall first.
The cooling tank overflowed
Usually a failed level control or a heat exchanger leak putting process water into the tank. Isolate, establish which, and do not simply drain and restart — a leaking exchanger will do it again mid-cycle.
The burner will not ignite
Check gas supply and isolation valve, flame detector cleanliness, purge completion and the ignition transformer. Repeated lockouts should be investigated rather than reset — a burner that needs three attempts is telling you something.
Cooling is very slow at maximum settings
Check cooling water flow and inlet temperature first, then exchanger fouling, then the modulating valve actually stroking. On hot days an undersized cooling circuit shows up here before anywhere else.
The autoclave takes a long time to start
Typically the pre-run vacuum integrity check finding a marginal port and retrying. That is the system doing its job — check the port report rather than bypassing the check.

FAQ

Short answers

How long does a new autoclave take?
Typically 9–14 months from order to commissioning for a standard production vessel, depending on size and civil works. Control retrofits and ovens are considerably shorter. You get a programme with the quotation, not after the order.
Do you service equipment you did not build?
Yes — a large part of our service and retrofit business is on other manufacturers' equipment. See AnyOEM Retrofit".
Can you help us achieve Nadcap accreditation?
We make sure the equipment and its documentation do not stand in your way: correct instrumentation, AMS2750-compliant survey and calibration, and batch records structured for audit. The accreditation is yours to hold.
Do we have to upgrade from CPC Legacy?
No. Legacy is still fully supported with spares and engineering cover. We will flag components that are becoming hard to source, but there is no forced migration.
Do you work outside the UK?
Yes. ASC Process Systems UK covers the UK, Ireland and Europe, supported by the group's engineering and manufacturing resources. Installations further afield are handled by the nearest ASC operation.

Cannot find what you need?

Ask. If the answer is useful to one customer it is usually useful to twenty, and it ends up on this page.
